Jim Bob, your essay is the most powerful argument for “Kamala” and against “Trump” without focusing on them as individuals that I have read. Thank you. Dave
Thanks, Dave. So appreciate the kind thoughts and I hope you are right that people think about these things before they vote. I believe women will save us. Again.
Blessings, Jim Bob. Your raw story brought tears. It's a story that far too many women know all too well. You have done a favor for your mother and all the other women who have suffered through the hellish days, nights and years brought on by men who learned from the patriarchy that women are less than and only here on earth to satisfy the predatory nature of males. I am grateful that men like you who lived and witnessed the constant degredation of women in your family chose instead to throw off those shackels and indulge in love, kindness and respect as ways to treat the women in their lives.
I figure that if abortion was not an issue, a bunch of powerful men would think of another way to tell women what to do. I'm hoping that there will come a time when such radioactive thinking will decay along with such thinkers. We sure can get a leg up on this issue when we get a woman in the White House and US folks can see what world history (and biology) has already proven.
Thank you, Linda. I appreciate your message. These things take time to process and look back upon with understanding. I never wanted to write about it until this moment came along and it seemed something my mother would want me to do.
How deeply saddening. And this is happening now somewhere in America as we read this. These people who cheer these laws, write them, and uphold them for the most part come from comfortable families that never saw or experienced this kind of trauma and pretend it doesn’t exist if they hear about it. Their so called “Christian” values, to put it in biblical terminology, is an abomination unto man! EXCEPT it’s WOMEN who bear the brunt.
I don't believe it is possible to be Christian and MAGA, and they seemingly prove it every day. I hope things change this week, Mike. Thanks for writing. Sure appreciate your constant support.
The history of women should never be erased or diminished. We have to go forward. Thank you for remembering and writing it down. I think your mother would appreciate it.
She would be embarrassed, were she alive, but I think she'd approve of sharing her story in the current political climate, and would hope that it has value. That's certainly what I hope. Thanks, as always, for your support, my friend.
Elegant, poignant and powerfully personal, Jim Bob. Your evocation of those times before Roe v. Wade is so amazing — not just on the realities of abortion, but the general powerlessness most women felt about their life situations. Required reading for all those who wonder what Kamala Harris and millions of American women (and men) mean when they say "We're not going back."

Thanks, Kay. I'm flattered by your note, and kind thoughts, and the mere fact you read my words.

I believe we are on the verge of that moment.
I very much hope so!
This will not happen until we accept that in the current era, only a Democratic majority in both Houses of Congress will keep women safe.
I would not be surprised if that happens this week.
Raw honesty and unflinching love. Such a powerful piece of writing. 💔 thank you as always. We need your voice.

Powerful. Poignant. Personal.
Wow.
Thank you for sharing, Mr. Moore.
A great thing to hear from a journalist I respect. Thanks for the kind words, MG.
Jim,
Seldom am I at a loss for somewhat-meaningful words to express my admiration, but I'm humbled to read such a sublime open wound of a story.
I wish you a long life with loved ones, as always.
And I will vote similarly tomorrow.
Thanks, buddy. I'm deeply touched and have long appreciated your support of my work and our friendship at a remove.

Thanks, my friend. Just one voice but a real world experience that shows what happens when women are helpless under the law and their husbands.
Thank you for telling us this story
Thank you, Michele, for reading it. Consider sharing, if you think it might help influence a voter or two you know.
