Americans sold their souls to Lucifer’s bastard stepson over the cost of eggs.

Nobody has put it more succinctly, buddy, that I've heard anywhere.

There was talk, an expression of hope, that trump’s “weave” was just his entertainer babble, a political Norm Crosby, and that, as MSN TV’s Smerconish thinks, is method to his madness. I see no method, only madness. You’ve illustrated the draconian madness in your vision. I’ve long seen the parallels in post Weimar Germany. We all know how that ended up. That said, seeing what’s been done so far, it’s important to consider what we do now, to believe that there is something we can do now, to prevent what will happen instead of just waiting for it to happen.

I'm open to suggestions, bro.

I don’t have a complete answer yet, but the first thing is to not disengage from the process. And your contribution as a journalist in this regard is critical, bro.

I can't help but believe that the appointment of the historical punchline Merrick Garland and his "Don't do anything that might be seen as political" tenure as Attorney General bears an enormous amount of blame for not being able to hold the ringleader of Treason & Insurrection to account in the 46 months between 2021 Inauguration and 2024 Election.

Trump hoarded (and almost certainly already sold) Top Secret Intel and clumsily and obviously attempted to hide the documents, and was given over two years of the benefit of the AG's inane edict to not seem "partisan" in pursuit of investigation and prosecution, which allowed the always-adept-at-delay Republican judicial apparatchiks to run out a clock whose alarm should have been blasting on 1/21/21.

Similarly, his Insurrection conspiracy (and multitude of Conspirators--including dozens still in elected office) should have been prosecuted from Day One. Biden and his Machiavellian support staff bear the blame for a LOT of the ineptitude of the messaging with this administration, but Garland will stand forever as the emptiest possible empty suit who sleepwalked for years while the sands of accountability drained in the hourglass.

I agree, Steve, and don't think enough has been made of Garland's circumspect approach and his fear of being viewed as "too political." Just when DoJ needs a thundering hand of power, we get someone wearing velvet gloves. The truth is, though, DoJ always proceeds much too slowly and ends up with non-definitive findings that are parsed to minimize impacts. Mueller report was perfect example. We are also going to struggle to have faith in any of our government's institutions by the time Trump is finished with their evisceration.

I'm hoping (against hope?) that Jack Smith maintains ALL the evidence he collected against The Traitor, and is afforded a renewed chance to get them before a judge in 2029. I expect that his cases are airtight, compared to Mueller's parsed-to-within-an-inch findings.

From across the pond I observe what America has done to itself and to the rest of us and weep.

It's even sadder, Ann, when you are standing in front of it and watching.

But, will the people even care what they see on tv? Will they care if they see it while driving through their neighborhoods? Will they care when they can't hire the same housekeeper they had for years because she's now in some encampment or deported? I don't know, I think many simply won't care until the food is rotting in the fields...and even then they will find a way to blame democrats.

I'm not even sure what to think or do about all of this and I really despise that we're basically subjected to a bonus 2.5 months of the circus in the interim.

Well, my feelings are in complete alignment with yours. I've been reading, writing, analyzing, and reporting politics for a long danged time, and I am as befuddled as anyone over how this happened and why obvious, hurtful things, do not seem to matter. The day grows dark.

From my perspective, I can't understand why anyone would consider a man who fakes a blow job with a microphone, spews hatred, is a convicted felon, and holds rallies where neo-Nazis feel at home, a candidate for president. What possible message would appeal to someone who suspends their moral compass to vote for that? The ads and speeches I saw about and from Kamala talked about jobs, affordable housing, the economy...etc. I'm not convinced they wanted to hear it. I think they wanted to hate.

That's probably what's at the heart of it all, Myra. They just wanted a license to hate, and he gave it to them. Maybe all of his awful behavior made them think he was just like they are.

As a Black person, it feels that way to me. His rallies had little content about any of those issues. But they were filled with racism and sexism. I think those who voted for him use the economy as an excuse. Sounds better than saying, I'm a pond scum racist. Or let's Make America White Again.....
