Another great essay. I take to heart your injunction (and Whitmer's) that we should vote for our self-interest, not as a bit player in a national drama. I would only add the caveat that we should cultivate and express what Ernie Cortés calls "enlightened self-interest" — self-interest leavened by the the awareness that we live in community and relationship, and in our interconnected society there as no such thing as *only* ourselves to think about.

I wonder what the great Mr. Cortés thinks of where we are now as a country. I'd be especially interested in his reaction to our governor's attempt to undermine public schools with vouchers since much of Ernie's life has been dedicated to improving public education and treating a quality education as a constitutional right.

Gretchen (and you) said it better than me self. If only Joe would pass the baton to her to quiet the ageists. But, again she points to the solution: Vote for ourselves, vote for Joe.

I agree with you and Whitmire, if we vote for our interests we can't lose...but I still can't believe that so many minority members are ignoring the fact that Trump & the republiKKKLans & their oligarch money machines are not interested in anyone but themselves and their lily-white friends...Joyce Vance had a good post about why some of the young people aren't as engaged with politics as they need to be coming up to the biggest challenge to democracy ever in just over 300 days...
