“If in my youth I had realized that the sustaining splendor of beauty with which I was in love would one day flood back into my heart, there to ignite a flame that would torture me without end, how gladly would I have put out the light in my eyes.” - Michelangelo
Murph lives on, certainly, in your memory and the memories of countless others. And his ashes returned to the earth to bring forth more life, and growth, and maybe someday another Murph. Thanks for the writing.
Dearest James, after reading your powerful and evocative essay, I wonder that I have the audacity to pick up a pen. Do you still plan to come to Oz and motorcycle around the Continent ? Muchly love and Happy New Year, brother!.Congratulations on your new site. tess lawrence xxx
Hi Tess! So great to hear from you. Yes, I am holding onto my dream that some time post-Covid I can get on a plane and get back there for a return trip across, this time the Top End. One of the mates I met in Perth last trip wants to ride with me. But things still look pretty crazy down there, about as bad as they are here stateside. Are you still working for the Independent?
* When were you last in Oz ? Did you film the journey ? Let's get back onboard dreaming with our eyes open and get you over here. And yes, things indeed are pretty crazy - no doubt you're across the ' Novax Djoker ' debacle.
* Am going to put you in touch with a cobber of mine who shares your motorcycle wanderlust - both of the land and of the souI -reckon you two would get on, big time. Your article has been like a booster vax for me, mentally. There is magic in your words James. More please. xxx
Nice piece. I'm interested in the subject of consciousness and many in the field are still working on defining exactly what it is, there doesn't appear to be a universal consenous on the definition yet, although close.
The next hard problem is explaining how it arises from the activity of the brain which is not yet known. So my curiousity is how can anyone take this experience of consciousness and put in onto a computer network with out first understanding what it is and how it works?

Yeah, that's a pretty salient question, which is nowhere near being answered, as you suggest, Steve.
Loved this piece! Thanks for a good Sunday morning read.

you've given life again to Murph and shared him with us. it is most welcome and appreciated.
Thanks, buddy.
Desperados waiting for a train. I'll drink whatever you're drinking. Damn fine writing.
Appreciate you taking the time with it, Rodzilla.
Beautifully done, Jim, and close to home. Thanks for another stimulating read, and extension of friendship.
