(Author’s note: Got a few comments last week that my piece was a bit of an angry screed against America. I was angry, still am, and depends on how you define a “screed.” Either way, I am not moved to retract anything I wrote. Our democracy has long been imperfect but we have spent two and a half centuries trying to form a more perfect union. We are failing, and we all ought to acknowledge that fact or we will lose this country to authoritarianism. Meanwhile, if you want to spread my point of view far and wide, please do so. Share this with your friends. Urge them to subscribe. My work is available for free but paid subscriptions are always flattering, and I owe thanks to many people for their belief in me. - JM)
With respect to your author’s note, I am grateful for your words because they articulate the rage that I have been unable to voice adequately. I don’t have any interest in engaging with anyone who isn’t at least as angry as you. That is where we should all be.
Bravo, Jim. Keep boring down on the easy access to weapons... (made easier by "open carry") ...the political masquerade that was the Governor's initial news conference after the Uvalde shooting (with the assembled Texas "Troika" of Abbott, Patrick and Cruz all jostling to be in camera range but nowhere to be seen when the truth as painfully relayed by the DPS Commander Steven McCraw started to dribble out..) and, in the coming week, when, in Washington, more clear evidence is unveiled of just how far some in positions of highest authority and their supporters have gone and will continue to go to dismantle 2 and a half centuries plus of painful effort to create that still elusive "more perfect union."

Thank you James for allowing your anger to shine through. Nothing short of limiting access to guns will ever reduce gun violence in this country, and our state's refusal to acknowledge the problem sends me into fits of anger and despair. I'm physically ill from living this way year after year..
It has only occasionally gotten a foothold, too, Ed.

To the point, as usual. Thank you for staying tbe course and not letting time reduce the importance of focusing on the guns.
It’s all such common sense, but to George Carlin’s point, common sense isn’t in charge.
