Thanks, Rog. We live in a target-rich environment, eh?

I think I meant to imply, or state clearly, that I was referring to the first place in Texas history was doing such a thing. But thanks for the catch!

yeah, i didn't wanna go into schaefer. i think an entire psycho-analysis of that clown would make a book. i am doubtful he has ever read much more than a menu.

As you know, Brother Jim, irony is dead in our world. For instance, the list of 850 books worthy of banning, or at least strict scrutiny, was promulgated by one Matt Schaefer, a troglodyte from Tyler who is in his sixth term in the House. Along with the two other "Matts" — Shaheen and Rinaldi — he was considered among the most reactionary, retrograde members of the House … and that's saying something.

To me, the notion that Schaefer would be familiar with, much less have read, any more than 10% of those "suspect" books is comical. He did not get to be Matt Schaefer by exposing himself to new ideas or doing any deep thinking.

The Taliban is more intellectually honest. Since they've never learned to read, they just ban ALL books.

And so it goes …

The absurdity of some of it is that many of these adults read some of the books, or ones like it, they want to ban as kids in the 80s and 90s (or earlier), and never said boo about it then. Nor did their parents. And suddenly their kids are Too Precious to read the same things they did. It infuriates.

Just one correction: Llano would not have been the first town to close its library over objections to books. Vinton, Iowa closed theirs last year over LGBTQ themes in the library.

Hey Jim Bob,

I'm sure you've been banned in Llano by now.

Nothing generates more readers like being banned.

Well at least the good people of Llano will still be able to go online and read your essays, Jim. 🤪

I don't know. There could be a JimBob firewall up by now, Dave.
