Love this writing and story telling. Your comment below anticipated my question as I read this and other pieces here...will you write a book? I'll buy it.

Thanks for sharing Jim. It's important to write about and share your life's experiences as I think it shows your readers that you have a real and solid foundation for your world view. It behooves one to pay attention to what you have to say.

Appreciate your taking the time with it and the thoughtful comments, Steve. Reaction is what every writer wants. BTW, pointing the motorcycle north to Alaska mid-summer and am searching for a riding partner or two.

Thanks for writing these thoughtful, folksy, poignant snippets from your life. Your writing makes me reflect on my own “road trips” and the signs along the way calling my attention to things I didn’t know I needed to learn.

Gracias, Bridget. I greatly appreciate you reading and taking the time to comment. I suspect I will end up with a book as I intersperse these stories with my political commentary. Maybe I can write a response to "Hillbilly Elegy" that offers the exact opposite take on government and the struggle of the working class.

"People who picked up hitchhikers, I quickly discovered, were often stranger than the roadside travelers."

Oh so true. But hitchhiking is for the adventurer who knows he is stepping out into the unknown.

I knew, and I was unafraid. Being at the side of the road with my thumb out was far less frightening than waiting on my father's outbursts of anger and the violence to follow.
