A clear-eyed view. Can we improve the situation before we die? Will other nations learn from America's downfall?

Thanks, Debbie. Not sure what we need to but we need to do something. Maybe the Trump regime collapses quickly of its own stupidity. But then what?

"I no longer recognize the country where I was born and raised. I’ve acknowledged its past sins regarding racism, slavery, sexism, and imperialist wars, but like most Americans I have believed in the founding dream, and assumed we would keep working toward a “more perfect union.” Our setbacks did not seem permanent and the cons in Congress and across Washington were usually ferreted out by our persistent common sense."

You speak for me. You speak for millions.

I've become quite nihilistic. Leave it to Carlin to share such nihilism but make it funny. I hadn't seen that clip before. Spot on.

Today's piece has been landed in about 50 of my friends' and family members' inboxes.

Keep on keepin' on, Jim! We need you.

I have finally advanced beyond my aghast stage, ie, mouth agape, 1000 yard stare, stoop shouldered with hands clutching at an evanescent reality of what was. Yes, we are as a nation moribund, and we, with it. We've a cancer and we must to do everything we can to kill it before it kills us. Treatment begins with being informed and supporting those, like the excellent writer of this journal, who work to spread the truth and to inspire us forward. From there, we must raise our voices. Let us resolve to not to go quietly.
