I grew up in the Panhandle of Texas. Austin was regarded as somewhat foreign to us. Good grief. I had no idea that a plaque about slavery was in the state capitol. The fact that it was put in place in 1959 was totally missed by me, a junior in high school.
And the first time I heard about slavery not being the cause of the Civil War, War of Rebellion, was around 1962 or 1963 in my required government class at Texas Tech University. It was presented as a new, sophisticated theory. I found it very curious. I was taught by my parents to not believe any and everything that comes out a person’s mouth. Just because a person can say it or write it does not make it the truth. My high school in Muleshoe, Texas was less indoctrinating than my college. My education in critical thinking began in my home.
Sometimes growing up in a rural area with the right parents is the best thing that can happen to a kid. You have the influence of good people and you are at a remove from the oddities and dynamics of a metro area. And ya can't be much more rural and remote than Muleshoe, closer to Denver than Austin. Unfortunately, I'm afraid rural Texas is still very much backwards on too many social issues and remains the political reason we have people like Greg Abbott. I remain amazed that farmers and ranchers are so dependent on undocumented workers while they support Abbott's Berlin Wall at the border.
Thank you for so eloquently describing the basis, structure, and nonsensical belief that a lack of melanin makes a human superior. The politicians like trump, abbott, desantis, and haley who trade on racism are as murderous as those who used it to destroy fellow humans. Appreciate you calling it out!
This is a fantastic piece. Beautifully written, thoughtful insights, and good, solid factual information. Thank you for being the person you are, and thank you for sharing with us.
It's a mordant irony that the imperialist British considered all Indians, Nikki's heritage from her mother and father, the same as Whites did the Africans in America. She knows that and has spoken to that discrimination. Bereft of the contrary reasons for her Carolinian cultural embrace, Nikki's lesser than two evils position has been tarred. This allows us to witness the unctuous dithering of a professional politician.
Agree, rural life was the “best” at that time. Not now. My people have been so hurt by the corporations’ takeover of food production. Now all they seem to have left is their religion and second amendment right to own guns. They try to celebrate life, but somehow the celebration falls short. Their children left--really forced out.
Yeah, I have spent a lot of time through the years riding my motorcycle through those W. Texas and Panhandle towns and I have seen them drying up. I was also a journalist for decades and did a lot of reporting in that part of the state, including on that very topic of corporate agriculture. Main streets hardly exist any more and the ones that do have only a few shops or cafes. No future exists in the hometown for young people. Understandable they would all leave. It's a very sad transition and hard to watch rural culture and life disappear.
We live in Fort Davis, rural Far West Texas and there are the absurd " TEXIT" signs sprinkled around town, my brother probably has them posted on his property...and the attitude is strong here...the thinking is so stupid because Texas absorbs more federal funds than it sends to DC...and how will #FascistAbbottini et al replace those federal funds...as to that 1959 plaque I've lived in Texas since '63 and have never heard about it but I'm not the least bit surprised by its existence...Candidate Christi said Haley doesn't want to offend anyone but her lies just offend EVERYONE...!
And if you lived in Fort Davis for a while you no doubt recall the Republic of Texas standoff out at the Davis Mountains resort that lasted almost a week and resulted in a shootout with the Texas Rangers and DPS. They were promoting the same thing people in Jeff Davis County are now trying to popularize. Leader Rick McLaren is doing life in a federal prison, the others served long sentences and have since been released. It's all absurd nonsense but if people don't vote these fools out of office, we've got it coming.
We retired out here in '10 but were aware of the DMR loonies and the standoff from the original news coverage of it...little did we know we were going to be living here back in the day...we've got a small fairly active Dem party office & group...and a lot of hope...
I was going to say, this explains all of the Texit and armed teacher signs in Fort Davis. I had never heard of that rebellion but now will look into it more.
I support Donald Trump 100 percent. Having said that, it seems that what's missing from your analysis of society is the evil influence of the Luciferian Brotherhood.
The Luciferians believe they have the right to rule over mankind, and in fact they do have a contract with the higher authorities. It is no secret that until 2017 (when Trump famously visited KSA, the Vatican, Israel and Buckingham Palace and forced them to surrender) they owned the means of production worldwide. Being the owners of the means of production means that they owned all governments, since the CIA (which answers only to the Brotherhood) became highly skilled at grooming public officials from birth and, with the mass media, created the illusion of representation and consent.
This is how I would explain slavery (which the Luciferians brought to the world), wars (the Civil War was started by Albert Pike), offensive plaques, bad legislation, corrupt law enforcement (which protects child sex traffickers and murders those who speak out) and textbooks that indoctrinate children with one insane ideology or another.
First rule: never blame the working class for the crimes of the ruling class.
Second rule: the ruling class literally worships demons and practices human sacrifice.
Third rule: God is with mankind, so spread the good news every day.

I hope our fellow citizens realize all this without being told, but who knows, eh?
I know,; right?

Thank you, Kathy, for the kind words and your ongoing support. Happy New Year!

"Unctuous" and "mordant" in the same comment fills me with great joy.
I live to please. I would have used slither as well but dither had that empty headedness I find so attractive in the Magat crowd.

So her bark and bite are now equally repugnant. To save time and space, thanks also for the terrific recent Arkansas radio memories.
