My best friend (my wife Salee on the back) and I rode the same roads with best friends Bernie and Carolyn in the Spring of 1997 on our Harleys. Hard to believe nearly 30 years have passed. Neither Bernie nor I still have the road bikes — too many close calls in and around Austin. But my memories of US Hwys 385, 67 and 90 around Alpine, Marathon, Marfa, Lajitas, and in THE Park, and following State Hwy 170 along the Rio Grande are always filled with the vastness, the color and the isolation - so beautiful. Thank you for the beautiful tribute to your Buddy, Jake. Very emotional to reach the end and see the photo of Jake with date of birth and death. God willing, I’ll hit 77 this September. I hope I’m remembered as “an excitable boy in his 70s” as well by my friends.

As usual a great read...living in Fort Davis we're familiar with the Terlingua and Big Bend areas and the vibes from the desert...thanks for sharing the road with us...

My God, what an exquisite piece of writing! I enjoyed every moment of this trip with you, cherishing the magnificent country made vivid and immediate in your words. And this is a lovely tribute to your friend, Jake.

Thank you, Jim. Here's to many more days and weeks spent wandering the Trans-Pecos and beyond!
