How was turnout where you live? Long lines in DFW but my site in the suburbs hummed. We had a few times maybe 5-10 minutes.

Trump is a smokescreen. If Trump/Vance is elected, Trump might last 6 months but I'm betting less than three. A whole lot of Republicans are voting for Vance. If Harris is going to win, the Dems had better start running against Vance very soon. He is far more dangerous than Trump.

Spot on...Project 2025 depends on #donOLD winning, expiring, and handing the country to Bowman/Hamel/Vance & Johnson...

The Donald won't die that quickly. Vance will build a coalition with Democrats and invoke the 25th amendment with JDV appearing to be a reasonable "adult" coming to the rescue of America. He's a much better liar than Trump. He knows how to mix in just enough truth to be plausible.

It astounds me that there are this many stupid people in America, too.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to his appearances in Detroit and New York.

He will face his worst nightmare...hecklers and hostile crowds.

There were 74 million of them in the last election. I am hopeful that number is dramatically reduced at this election. But hell, we will still be left with a dangerous amount of stupid.

There are armies of people who seriously believe conspiracy theories -- I'm sure you read my "Trolls and Nuts" post -- and I heartily agree with you.

The worst thing about conspiracy theories is how you scratch so many of them -- and their theorists -- and at the bottom, you find anti-Semitism in the raw.

There is a lot of anti-semitism afoot, prompted by Israel’s behavior in Gaza, and I fear things will only get worse.

H L Menken said "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

This election may prove him right, again.

The only circles Trump reminds me of is Dante's circles of hell in the INFERNO.

I do not share your optimism because of the electoral college. Harris will crush Trump in the national popular vote, as Democrats have done for several elections. But with Republicans purging voting rolls and running elections in many of the swing states, I see dark clouds on the horizon. And while I've no reason to doubt Republicans are indeed dropping a plethora of polls favorable to Trump, I'm also not so naive to not believe Democrats are doing the same.

I so hope you are right. If by some CRAZY chance he does win, I wish him good health, because the backup plan is the real devil in a suit.

I think the greatest mystery in my lifetime is comprehending why trump has a following. I know good people who would come to the aid of another in need, people who trump would pass by with less thought than he would give his manicure, and yet, they'd vote for him. Why? Recusant? Rebellious? Over burdened, over whelmed, with an injury and no one to blame? Or is it Trump the Lardaceous, the buffoon of the Great American Circus? I think perhaps, the admiration of his arrogance, the man who gets away with everything, and due to that, his zealots are jealous, yearning to escape their misfortunes. It's as good reason as any. Still, I'm left baffled, shaking my head and envisioning the End of Times, awaiting our sociopolitical Chicxulub. Nothing good comes from him.

Probably as opportune a time as any for our Aurora, Colorado story. In addition to her practice, our daughter Haley is still a neurologist at the University of Colorado Hospital there. One Friday evening, about a dozen years ago, during her residency, in my phone call seeking some obscure medical advice, she complained of fatigue from having been on call all week, including from 7 o’clock that morning straight through to 11a.m. the following Monday. Around 7:25p.m. that Sunday night we unexpectedly received her next call, beginning with a single sentence: “OMG, I just shook hands with President Obama!”

Sandwiched in between was the Aurora movie theater massacre in which 12 people died and another 70 were injured during the midnight screening of the Batman movie “The Dark Night Returns.” She had been called down for a neurological consult and was in the hospital room with the other physician and patient, when suddenly the elevator door outside opened, Secret Service emerged and cleared the hallway of everybody else. The President was making rounds expressing appreciation for all the hard work and care during that exceptionally stressful weekend. So swamped with work, she hadn’t seen a newscast and was completely unaware Obama had even flown to Denver. Without being on call she would have missed the experience. After that personal honor, Laura and I remarked it was a shame Haley was a doctor and would, therefore, have to eventually wash her hands of the memorable Presidential salutation.

BTW, we’ve had several pleasant walks through Aurora parks near apartment buildings, with the only sense of invasion being from what seemed unusually large gatherings of squirrels.

The polls tell us that Trump, running overtly and loudly as a white supremacist, is gaining with minorities, the very people he says he will punish, exclude, deport, descriminate against. How can this be? The public polling firms this cycle have tweeked and tweeked their methodologies and now I suspect they've tweeked them into garbage. But all of them. I dunno. If the key all along to securing the votes of the marginalized was promising to lock the gates on them even tighter, we truly are a sick and declining nation.

This is accurate as usual...the only way I sleep at night requires me to believe the polls are only a reflection of the corporate-controlled MSM trying to make this an old-fashioned political horse race to gather as many likes & clicks as possible...they have no desire to be journalists any longer...
