Ha, yeah, I'll write a new life where that scary word "news" sends me straight from copper country to the cold water flat in Manhattan, where I suffer even greater ignominy, surrender, and end up teaching literature in Refugio, Texas.

The art of the short story is seldom mastered but attempted by many. I greatly enjoyed reading your adventure and of course the all the political commentary for which I know you far better. Thanks for sharing your observations on a life well traveled.

In the movie version, this exchange will be accompanied by ominous music signaling danger ahead: "What about news?”

“Sure, you can do news. We get the wire service, but you can gather local stories, too, on the phone.”
