Our history as a country -- determined on the one hand to embrace the great experiment that is democracy, forced on the other hand to engage in hand to hand combat with the ghosts of slavery and thievery of land -- contines to be written in buckets of blood and tears, lies and horrendous transgressions because at the helm is the patriarchy with its evil bent and insatiable appetite for control and fierce hatred of women who dare to demand equity and control of their bodies. The greed and madness that drives the patriarchy is toxic, loveless, bloated. And to what end?
Brilliant piece of writing. While fiction as you pointed out; this scenario could easily play out yet. I pray not. However, as a child of that "Greatest Generation" I have exactly those feelings you pointed out with the Defenders of the Republic. I hope people pay attention and share this; as I am.
Not the case, IMHO. Sarah Palin tried nudging people to "exercise their Second Amendment rights" and was roundly, and rightly, condemned for it. We are a long way away from the fictional account Jim Bob has written. "We the People" need to get off our collective asses, demonstrate as we did for Civil Rights and leaving Vietnam, and show up at the polls in November to throw these Trump enabling legislators out. It's our country - but only if we claim it.
I think demonstrations are exactly what this administration wants. They will likely bypass Posse Comitatus, enact martial law, and commit federal resources to the cities. From there, elections will be suspended. Not that elections are guaranteed to be very free and fair anymore. History witnessed this in 1930's Germany. The only thing I can see preventing this from happening would be the refusal of our Armed Forces to follow unlawful orders of a deranged President. Our government is corrupt from top on down. I trust it not at all.
A dark forecast, to be sure, but leavened at the end with a renewed, if more sober, appreciation of the Constitution and its fragility.
I personally hope we do not descend into Civil War, but the nation's fissures are deep and encouraged by its government. I think we will need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission on the order of what South Africa did after apartheid was dismantled.
Unfortunately, that's not what Americans want. We continually fail to honestly confront our 400 year legacy of slavery and there's no way the nation is going to honestly confront this hard right turn to Fascism. Hopefully, we will overcome it and get the USA back to the basics of the Declaration of Independence. If not, then we deserve what we get.
Just to be clear, I was not proposing a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate America's lamentable history of state-sponsored slavery and genocide. I was proposing it as a focal point for undoing the damage caused by the last decade of Trumpist fascism. Otherwise, I fear too many people will not want to do the hard work: "let's let bygones be bygones" and so forth.

This is the moment the 2nd amendment has been waiting 250 years for. Where is the NRA? The National Guard needs to be out there defending us.

Much more desirable direction
If it works...

I think I'll have to go and have a cry now.
Excellent and scary…could totally see this transpiring!
