I have a friend, one of the smartest people I know. He's been politically active in the past, but now he says there's nothing we can do. He talks about civilizational cycles and hoping for the best. He invites me to concerts and book club meetings.

I tell him I'm too busy. There are fascists to fight.

I'm got gonna take it lying down.

Share this list with your friend. This is just a small sample. And in the words of Dr. Timothy Snyder, author of On Tyranny and a world history expert, Rule Number One: Don't Obey in Advance. Also his Substack "Thinking About".

Again, this is a small sample. Remind him that Hawaii just passed a law to limit political contributions for companies domiciled in there state. Montana is working on this as well.

Maybe you could take Autocracy Inc by Anne Applebaum or Strongmen by Ruth Ben-Ghiat to his book club.

I could go on...

I agree with the previous comments, I want you to send this to the NYT. If we choose to not show up and stop this white nationalist insanity then we are telling the world "this IS who we are". I'm not willing to accept that. Thanks for writing this.

Time to start the reckoning. Just read Project 2025. They are executing it and it’s half way done. The goal: To wipe out everything from FDR to today. Really that simple. They must be stopped. NOW!

If you haven't already, please submit this to the major publications as an op-ed piece. A lot more people need to hear what you're saying. And thanks for saying it.

I want to share this with everyone I know.

Thanks, Mick. Please do.

Truly one of the best opinion pieces on the dangers of MAGA. To America and democracy! Should be required reading for all!

Thanks, Jim. I needed this one. I remember Molly Ivin's last column calling on folks to raise hell about the dangers facing the country and our society, urging people to get into the streets banging pots and pans until no one could ignore the warnings. Living in Abilene now where there's so much kool aid being guzzled, it's easy to just keep your head down. But it's hard to look away.

And may MAGA rot in hell, soon. Shared.

Well, amen. I dunno, Jim. All best to you and thanks for this.

If we do not uproot this MAGA scourge in the voting booth and at school board, we will be fighting on the beaches, in the hills and in the streets, and on the steps of every capital in this nation. You are ringing the alert: Wake up, wake up, wake up!

This is something I think we can do. Just one page. It's really a follow up to my comment last week.

Somehow, in working for humanity and democracy, we can't become like those working against us.

In my little town, we can and we are gathering and doing something about it!
