America is no longer a great country. It's just another country with another corrupt government.

There was always a lot of corruption, of course; it’s just considerably more opaque these days.

The idea in the first place that it’s up to Trump and Putin to “negotiate” anything is laughable, not in a funny way, more revolting and disgusting.

I’m so glad you put to words what any of us that read must have all been thinking and then some. When I read, the report then saw pictures of the red carpet treatment for the murderer of not only war victims but political opponents, reporters, and anyone who gets in his way, then the chuckle heads ride in the presidential limo where Putin was described as being seen laughing, I went between going through the roof to complete disgust with this whole country and all of the people that voted for and still support this fat monster!

I’m sick of the “god bless America” bullshit rhetoric, if it’d been blessed by this “god” EVER we wouldn’t be where we find ourselves now!!

Yeah, I’ve often wondered Mike who authorized us to be the peace negotiators for the world. We don’t exactly have an exemplary record on the matter.

And again I awoke frightened at sunrise.

Bangs and whimpers and all the usual ruminations.

The sociopathic mendacity and murderous gratuitousness of the Trump regime beggars belief.

It's gobsmacking that his full conspiratorial measure was not taken the last time round by those with the political wherewithal to marshal a longer game to oppose him - but no, here is the playboy tyrant once again shaking hands with a "soulless terrorist."

We are witnessing democracies and the democratic ideal - a sacred work in progress across the centuries per the sacrifice of countless dedicated, courageous lives - being everywhere systematically debased, trivialised, and dismantled in front of our very eyes as if moral violation and political heresies are mere progressive practicalities en route to an alternate reality we must accept.

As if all those lives and all that history mean nothing.

In my callow youth I protested illegal wars and social injustice, but now I feel my faith in people power slipping away as if our collective action had merely been a danse macabre, postponing the inevitable.

What power have the people when the people in power fail to use theirs?

But you write with such a deep humanitarianism and journalistic authority I feel the glimmers of hope returning.

Perhaps in our puppet theatre Downunder we have half a chance with the odious conservative Coalition crashing out in our recent Federal election mainly due to a timely overdose of Trump (hackles rose). Perhaps this is our Biden phase and thus no time to rest on our laurels.

Thank you again Mr Moore.

Trump rise to power shows us the opposite of our Founding Fathers' ideals, that the current president's intent and the execution of his intent are aligned; we have enabled a despot to destroy the American Experiment.

Waking frightened at sunrise pretty much describes my general state of mind these days. Thanks for the quotation …
